How does a PSA plant works?
Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is one economical and efficient technology using to recover the hydrogen from the hydrogen-rich gases, such as syngas, waster-gas, various off-gases.
The principle of applying PSA gas purification process is by utilizing the characteristics of adsorbents with selectivity towards different absorbing substances and with variations of absorbing the capacity to the absorbing substance following the change of pressure, absorbing impurities composition in the feedstock under high pressure and desorbing the impurities under low pressure to reactivate the adsorbents. The complete operation process is proceeding under ambient temperature.
PSA working procedures are basically divided into adsorption and regeneration. The regeneration of adsorbents can be divided into 3 sub-procedures as follows:
i. Reduce the pressure of adsorber;
ii. Purge and blow down the adsorbents at low pressure.
iii. Increase the pressure of adsorber to return to the next cycle after the adsorbents are regenerated
To ensure the feedstock filled in continuously and the hydrogen output continuously, generally, there are more than 4 absorbers are staggered, comprising a closed loop to ensure the feedstock filled in continuously and the product output continuously. Commonly, One or two adsorbers are in adsorption. The complete process is mainly realized by program control valves.

• Hydrogen capacity: 5 to 100,000 Nm3/h
• Feed pressure: 7 to 35 barg
• Hydrogen purity: typically 99.99%; higher purity could be tailored.
